Seabrook Island is served by a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) comprised of volunteers willing and trained to render first response assistance. More information concerning CERT is available through the following navigation element.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members are volunteers trained in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and first response aid for injured persons. CERT members are ready to deploy following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number.
Seabrook Island CERT
When a large disaster strikes and first responders are overwhelmed, the first people you will turn to for help will be your neighbors. The Seabrook Island Community Emergency Response Team’s (CERT) mission is to assist state, county, and town emergency service agencies in any and all emergencies; to assist the general public in emergencies; and to train, educate, and inform the public regarding emergency preparedness.
Members of the Seabrook Island CERT team have been trained in disaster preparedness, disaster medical operations, disaster fire suppression, and light search and rescue operations. About 26 Seabrook CERT members have completed HAM Radio instruction and obtained their radio licenses. Base stations are now located in both the Firehouse and Town Hall. A trailer was purchased several years ago to store a variety of emergency equipment and supplies.
Seabrook Island’s CERT meets every other month to update their skills. Anyone interested in becoming a Seabrook CERT member should contact the Team leader, John Reynolds, at JohnR99773@aol.com or 843-768-0434.
