Winter Weather Advisory – Town Offices Closed Wed. January 3rd

published: 01/02/18 by Town of Seabrook Island

On Tuesday, January 2nd, representatives of the Town of Seabrook Island participated in a Charleston County conference call with the National Weather Service. The County advised that in anticipation of a winter storm, it has moved to emergency readiness status OP Con 4.  Consistent with the Town’s policy, it has moved its readiness status to Op Con 4 as well.

NWS has advised that a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect tomorrow morning.  Precipitation in the form of freezing rain is anticipated to begin between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM tomorrow morning, with an accumulation of one-tenth of one inch ice accretion.  Thereafter, we can expect an accumulation of 1-3 inches of “sleet and snow” accompanied by wind gusts of up to 25 MPH, resulting in a wind chill factor in the teens.  Precipitation is anticipated to continue for up to twelve (12) hours.  We can reasonably anticipate that we will experience power outages.  Charleston County will sand and salt the primary bridges.  Law enforcement will determine if and when roads such as Bohicket and Main will be closed.  These roads will be “hand sanded” as required. Freezing weather will continue through the week, with no significant warming until the weekend.

Offices of the Town of Seabrook Island, as well as all county offices, will be closed on Wednesday, January 3rd.   A decision will be made on Wednesday regarding the opening of town offices on Thursday, January 4th.
