Mayor John Gregg
Mayor John Gregg and his wife, Katie, first purchased property on Seabrook Island in 1997 and became full time residents in 2006. Prior to retirement, Mayor Gregg was intellectual property counsel for a machinery manufacturer in Cincinnati, OH.
Prior to election to Town Council, Mayor Gregg served on the Seabrook Island Property Owners Association Legal Committee. Mayor Gregg was elected as the tenth Mayor of Seabrook Island in November 2019, and was reelected to a second term in November 2021. Prior to that, he served three terms as a member of Town Council (2013-2019). He served as Mayor Pro Tem and chair of the Public Safety Committee during his three terms on Town Council. As Public Safety Official, Mayor Gregg led the work of the town’s Disaster Recovery Council and coordinated disaster training and exercise sessions for town and community officials twice per year. Those sessions provide valuable information which is used by participating organizations to improve their emergency response plans. Mayor Gregg led the preparation, submission, and follow-through of the town’s requests for state and federal disaster grant funding for costs incurred as a result of Hurricanes Matthew (2016), Irma (2017), Florence (2018) and Dorian (2019). Those efforts have resulted in more than $180,000 in reimbursements for the town and Utility Commission. He has also led the town's response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As Mayor, he now serves as the Executive Official under the town’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Town Service
