Law Enforcement
The Town of Seabrook Island does not have a municipal police department. Therefore, all law enforcement services are provided by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office has jurisdiction throughout Charleston County. Deputies will assist other agencies upon request (including the Seabrook Island Beach Patrol) and will respond to situations within the county when deemed necessary to ensure public safety. The Sheriff's Office engages in certain routine activities such as civil process, detention and service of warrants on a countywide basis. The Sheriff's Office has the authority to enforce state laws throughout the county, including incorporated areas; however, deputies do not have the authority to enforce a city ordinance within the limits of the municipality unless that ordinance has also been adopted as a county ordinance. The Sheriff's Office is led by a Sheriff who is elected by the voters of Charleston County. The Sheriff's Office has more than 860 full-time equivalent employees and an annual operating budget of more than $75 million. Administrative Offices for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office are located at 3505 Pinehaven Drive in North Charleston. The Sheriff's Office also operates the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center at 3841 Leeds Avenue in North Charleston. The Town of Seabrook Island is part of the county's West Patrol District. Deputies assigned to the West Patrol District are responsible for providing services to Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island, James Island, Johns Island, Wadmalaw Island and West Ashley.
