In consequence of an incident that took place on Wednesday, February 5th, the bike path on the outbound lane of Seabrook Island Road will be CLOSED between Town Hall and Freshfields Village beginning on Thursday, February 6th at 4:00 pm for pending repairs. We regret the inconvenience but have determined that closure of the pathway is appropriate to protect public safety. The pathway on the inbound lane between Landfall Way and Bohicket Marina will remain open.
The town’s tree maintenance contractor will be working on Seabrook Island Road for the next several days. During this time, there may be instances when Seabrook Island Road is reduced to a single lane and the bike path may be blocked. Please use caution while traveling between the SIPOA security gate and the traffic circle as workers and equipment may be present. All work is expected to be completed by March 1st.
The National Weather Service is forecasting moderate to potentially heavy rainfall in the Charleston region on Saturday night (December 8th) and into Sunday morning (December 9th). Heavy rain and wind are expected to generate higher than normal tides, which have the potential to cause tidal flooding on Seabrook Island Road and other low lying areas. Rain is expected to taper off on Sunday afternoon.
The Post and Courier reports: "Northeast winds from 20 to 30 mph and gusts as high as 40 mph will accompany some 2 to 3 inches of rain." It is possible that Sunday's high tide may "peak above 8 feet - a height that can swamp low-lying streets, can undermine properties as well as exacerbate erosion." [Read the full article here] While wintry condition are expected to blanket large parts of North and South Carolina this weekend, the current forecast does not anticipate any snow or ice in our area. High temperatures in the Charleston area are expected to reach the low to mid 50's on Saturday and Sunday. High Tide Predictions (NOAA Kiawah Bridge)
